War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Appointed Lance Corporal, Gallipoli, 3 november 1915. Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Promoted Corporal, 25 January 1916.!Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 25 June 1916. Detached to Trench Mortar School, 4 June 1916; rejoined Bn from School, 9 June 1916. Wounded in action, 26 July 1916 (shell shock), and admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 27 July 1917; to2nd Division Base Depot, Etaples, 11 August 1916. Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 14 August 1916 (disordered action of the heart); transferred to England, 23 August 1916, and admitted to York Military Hospital; found guilty, 28 September 1916, of breaking from hospital when a patient, and remaining out till 11.15 pm, 24 September: severely reprimanded; discharged on furlough, 29 September 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 16 October 1916.
