'At POZIERES, Private YOUNG, a stretcher bearer, attached to "C" Company, worked continuously carrying wounded from the front line to the dressing station from the evening of the 5th August, 1916, until he was himself wounded (while attending to a wounded man) on the night of 7th/8th August, 1916. While making his trips he frequently had to pass through heavy artillery barrages, and furthermore to move over open country, as the saps were too narrow for stretchers.'
