Proceeded overseas to France, 4 February 1917; taken on strength, 20th Bn, in the field, 9 February 1917. Wounded in action, 2 May 1917 (gun shot wound, right leg), and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 3 May 1917; to Ambulance Train, 3 May 1917, and admitted to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 4 May 1917. Transferred to England, 7 May 1917, and admitted to St Edmonds Hospital, Suffolk, 8 May 1917; discharged to Red Cross Hospital, Sudbury, 17 May 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 13 June 1917; discharged on furlough, 15 June 1917, to report to Command Depot, Wareham, 29 June 1917.
