'For gallantry and particular attention to duty throughout his service. This Officer left Australia in 1914, and has shown great gallantry on numerous occasions, notably in the operations on the 8th August 1918 when acting as Liaison Officer between the Infantry and the Artillery. In this operation he obtained very valuable information indeed at great personal risk, and it was owing to the information that he obtained that the Brigade was able to follow up the Infantry. He has shown great ability and courage at all times, especially under heavy shell fire in the handling of his Section.'
