Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operation 8th/9th August 1918 E. of CORBIE. Pte E.S. BROWN whilst in charge of a Lewis Gun team observed several of the enemy with a machine gun firing on our advancing platoons. He immediately rushed forward with his gun and commenced firing upon the enemy. After four bursts of Lewis Gun fire the enemy fled and Pte BROWN kept on firing and killed three of the running enemy. when the final objective was reached Pte BROWN under machine gun and rifle fire connected up with the unit on our right and gave covering fire across his Company front.'
