War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 2 August 1917; disembarked Glasgow, Scotland, 2 October 1917; marched in to Australian Army Service Corps Training Depot, Parkhouse, 3 October 1917. Transferred to and taken on strength, Artillery Details, Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery, Larkhill, 14 October 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 February 1918; taken on strength, 4th Divisional Ammunition Column, in the field, 7 March 1918. Transferred to 11th Field Artillery Brigade, in the field, 6 April 1918, and posted to 111th Battery. Promoted Temporary Bombardier, 16 November 1918. On leave to England, 19 November 1918; leave extended, and rejoined unit, 8 December 1918. Detached for duty at AIF Headquarters, London (War Records Section), 7 March 1919. Authorised, 10 April 1919, to remain in London to attend evening classes (algebra and geometry), London Polytchnic, 307 Regent Street, London (Non-Military Employment: fees only); final report: 'Bdr. Fergusson has been studying Algebra & Geometry at this institute. He is an excellent student & has increased his knowledge considerably.'
