Stowed away with 7th Reinforcements, 8th Light Horse Regiment; attested and taken on strength, 15 January 1916, and allotted Regimental No 45; letter 'A' subsequently added.

Note on Form B103: 'On joining the A.I.F. he was detailed for Police duty and believing that this would last indefinitely he stowed away on the "Mallakufa" in September with our 7th. Reinfs. on board. He came to our details Camp at Heliopolis with them and carried on there as a member of the Reinforcements though not on any roll. His duties were always well carried out. He served without pay. When the Regiment returned the question of putting him on a proper footing was raised and it was decided to take a fresh attestation and place him on the strength of the Regiment. This was done on 15th. January 1916. The number given him was that of a dead man.'

Cautioned, Shellal, 18 June 1917, for (1) neglecting to obey an order given by an NCO; (2) using obscene language.

Admitted to 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance, Beribela, 21 July 1917 (pleurisy); transferred to Hospital Train, 22 July 1917, and admitted to 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital, El Arish, 22 July 1917; transferred to 36th Stationary Hospital, Mehemdiyeh, 23 July 1917; discharged to Moascar, 31 July 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Light Horse Training Regiment, 1 August 1917.
