Found guilty, Heliopolis, 8 February 1916, of failing to comply with a standing order: awarded 2 MO Parades.

Transferred to 11th Light Horse, Serapeum, 30 March 1916.

Found guilty, Ferry Post, 2 March 1917, of absenring himself from duty without permission in that he at Serapeum on 26/2/17 when detailed to transport regimental baggage did leave before the work was completed thus throwing duty on other men: awarded 1 day's Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant.

Transferred to AASC, 31 July 1917; taken on strength, 36th Company, Australian Mounted Division Train, 13 August 1917.

Marched out to Rest Camp, Port Said, 29 September 1917; rejoined unit from Rest Camp, 4 October 1917.

Admitted to 3rd Light Horse Brigade Field Ambulance, 6 April 1918 (depression), transferred to 76th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to 43rd Stationary Hospital, Kilo 151, 7 April 1918 (mental depression); to 24th Stationary Hospital, 8 April 1918; to 14th Australian General Hospital, Port Said, 10 April 1918; to Rest Camp, Port Said, 22 April 1918; to 14th Australian General Hospital, Port Said, 25 April 1918 (mental deficiency); to 'M' Special Hospital, Abbassia, 24 May 1918 (already boarded for return to Australia).

Court of Enquiry, held at 14th Australian General Hospital, 1-2 May 1918, found that 'No 5493 Cpl Farrall H.B. attempted to commit suicide whilst of unsound mind by cutting his throat with the razor produced. That no blame is attachable to anybody'.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Port Darwin', 12 July 1918; disembarked Sydney, 17 August 1918; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 29 June 1919.
