Military Medal 'On the night of 6th October this soldier was Lead Driver in a gun team going into action. The enemy was shelling the road heavily in ESTREES, and a shell burst beside the team killing four of the horses. Driver ALLEN extracted himself from beneath his horse and although the shelling continued he immediately mounted the wheel horses and withdrew the gun to safety. He displayed a remarkable amount of courage, resource and initiative. This Driver has on several occasions performed specially good work under trying circumstances.'
