Military Cross ''For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of a patrol of six men. The patrol was suddenly rushed from the rear by about 40 of the enemy, and two of his men were severely wounded. He remained with the wounded men in a shell hole, and eventually got them safely back to the lines.''
