Military Medal 'At GUEUDECOURT on the night 24th/25th February, 1917, Private Brown displayed gallantry in the field and special good work as scout. This man entered and reconnoitred the enemy's trench and covered the flank so as to guard against surprise. He showed great coolness and daring and set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty.'

The patrol was suddenly rushed from the rear by about 40 of the enemy, and two of his men were severely wounded. He remained with the wounded men in a shell hole, and eventually got them safely back to the lines.'
