Military Medal 'These two runners [BROWNE and 3506 C.S. COOK] during the whole of the operations from the 26th September - 1st October inclusive made journeys from Battalion Headquarters to the front line under heavy shell fire from the enemy. In spite of the fact that many other runners had been killed and wounded while carrying out similar work and although the heavy nature of their task as telling on their physical strength they were bothy always willing and eager to carry despatches. It was owing largely to their work that inter-Battalion communication was maintained throughout the tour of duty. In addition acting on their own initiative they were given permission to visit Companies during the advance on the 26th and brought back important messages.'
