'For bravery at all times and long service as a runner between headquarters and Batteries. During the active operations in September and October 1918, near BELLICOURT, BEAUREVOIR, etc. For soldier acted in the above capacity in all weathers and often under heavy enemy fire. On many occasions this man would set out in the middle of the night with urgent despatches and with only a vague idea of the location of the Battery. He could always be relied on to carry out his mission.'
