Arrived in Melbourne from USA, 3 June 1915. War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 27 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 July 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 November 1916. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, while on leave, 16 August 1917; discharged, 20 September 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 36 days. Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 27 September 1917; marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, 29 September 1917. Marched out to No 3 Group, Fovant, 29 October 1917. Found guilty, 11 April 1918, of being absent without leave from midnight, 11 April, until 1700, 12 April 1918: awarded 7 days' confined to camp and forfeited 1 day's pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 April 1918; rejoined 39th Bn, 27 april 1918. Marched out for return to Australia, 9 April 1919; marched in to No 3 Group, Codford, 15 April 1919. Found guilty, 14 May 1919, of at Codford being absent without leave from 2359, 10 May, until 2300, 12 May 1919: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 4 days' pay. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Rio Padro', 27 May 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 18 July 1919; discharged, Melbourne, 4 September 1919. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal Sister, T. Abolin, St Stukmani Vietalvas Grevas, Riga, Latvia, wrote to 'The Secretary for Defence (War Historian), Melbourne, 15 July 1921: ' ... and heartly please you to let me know something about my brother Peter Abolin, soldier of the Australian Army, from whom I have had no letters since the great War and do not know is he killed in action or returned to Australia.
