Meritorious Service Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the period under review. As Transport Sergeant of the Battalion he has been most indefatigable in his services. Under most trying circumstances both from enemy action and severe weather conditions he has carried out his duties in a most praiseworthy manner. No shell fire has ever been sufficiently heavy to prevent him reaching the forward troops with rations, water or ammunition, while his personal courage and cheery demeanour in any adversity has always done much to spur his subordinates to the necessary effort. His example and service generally have been invaluable.'
