Meritorious Service Medal 'This Non-Commissioned Officer an original member of the Unit, has proved himself, as Transport Sergeant, to be one of the most reliable N.C.O.s in the Battalion. From 1st May to 1st September he has been periodically under heavy enemy shell fire whilst engaged in transporting supplies to the front line. By skilful handling of his men and teams he has minimised casualties, whilst his hard-working energy has earned for him the whole-hearted confidence of his men. On one occasion when his men were dispersed by shell fire near RIBEMONT he skilfully selected the best cover available for his teams, and, when the shelling had subsided, led them forward again with their rations for the troops in the front line. His work has been of sterling worth to the Unit.
