Military Medal 'During the attack on POLYGON WOOD on 20th September, 1917 Sapper BUCKNALL displayed conspicuous gallantry as a linesman. At a critical time a telephone line connecting two important stations was cut by shell fire and he volunteered and repaired same when the enemy barrage was heaviest. As a result of his efforts most import information concerning the operations was telephoned to the rear.'
