Military Medal 'East of PROYART on 23rd/26th August, 1918, when on account of the faulty cartridge a number 36 rifle grenade fell back in our trench among a party of 5 men, Private BUCKPITT immediately ran to it, picked it up and threw it on to the parapet where it at once explosed. He undoubtedly saved these men's lives by his quick and brave action. Later he took up an exposed position to bettter direct the fire of his rifle grenadiers of whom he took charge.'
