War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 7 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 21 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France,28 December 1916; taken on strength, 19th Bn, in the field, 13 March 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 27 January 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 14 February 1918. Wounded in action, 8 April 1918 (gun shot wound, chest and right arm), admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, and transferred to Casualty Clearing Station; to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 12 April 1918; to England, 20 April 1918, and admitted to 15th Canadian General Hospital, Taplow, Buckinghamshire, 21 April 1918; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 3 July 1918; discharged on furlough, 11 July 1918, to report to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 25 July 1918. Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 10 September 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Saxon', 11 December 1918; disembarked, sydney, 1 February 1919; discharged (medically unfit), Sydney, 9 March 1919.
