Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While he was controlling railway construction work under heavy shell fire it became necessary to make a deviation at the spot where the line came under fire. After putting the majority of his men in safety he returned with a small party and accomplished his work, in spite of casualties reducing his party to a minimum for effective work.'
