In one of the first boats to land at Gallipoli, 25 April 1915. The only medical officer to be awarded the DSO at Gallipoli, where he remained until October 1915. Proceeded to France, April 1916; commanded 3rd Field Ambulance; appointed to command 3rd Australian General Hospital, July 1918. Author of the official medical history, on which he started work in 1923. Medals: Distinguished Service Order, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
