Red Cross File No 660611 has statement from 2500 Pte J. BUTLER, 60th Bn (patient, 2nd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne), 18 October 1916: 'I saw him hit close to Fritz's wire. If he survived he might have been taken prisoner as we had to come back to our line, leaving a good many men behind.'
