Military Medal 'These two men are stretcher bearers and are specially brought to notice for their courage and endurance in action 26th/29th August, 1916, near FERME DU MOUQUET. They succeeded in rescuing and carrying back their wounded from No Man's Land at all times being under enemy artillery fire. They worked from advanced dressing station to the front line during this time and were to a large extent responsible for the quick and careful evacuation of our wounded under exceptionally difficult conditions. No. 3233 Private W.J. BYRNE has been previously recommended for excellent work during period 5th/10th August, 1916, in action north of POZIERES.'
