Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although his left arm was rendered useless by a wound he remained on duty, as he knew the four platoon commanders of his company were casualties. When the second objective was reached he dug a strong point in front of it, and remained on duty until the battalion was relieved.'

CADDY took command of his platoon when his Platoon Officer was killed just as the objective was reached. He showed splendid courage in action and skill in consolidation and was a fine example to his men. He contributed much to the holding of the front line.'
