War service: Western Front Cahill entered a ruined church in 1918 and rescued the Blessed Sacrament, just before the church was destroyed by shell fire. In 1970, while on a visit to Villers-Bretonneux, Cahill learned of the village's attempts to build a youth centre; he offered to assist, and for his efforts was made an Officier de l'Ordre nationale de Merite.
