War service: Egypt, Western Front Marched in to Tel el Kebir, 11 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 May 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 4 June 1916; marched in to 4th Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 7 June 1916. Admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 19 June 1916 (mumps); discharged to duty, 11 July 1916; taken on strength, 5th Bn, 30 July 1916. Wounded in action, 18 August 1916 (gun shot wound, forearm), and admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 20 August 1916; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 24 August 1916; to Base Depot, 27 August 1916. Appointed Acting Corporal, with extra duty pay, 10 January 1917. Reverted to permanent rank of Private, 8 February 1917.
