'He has been through the severe fighting since the 10 August 1918, and in every action has been a very fine example to the men of his company. He has always shown great courage and devotion to duty, and has led and encouraged the men in all the difficulties of the enterprise. In the fighting of 29-30 August, at Clery-sur-Somme, he assumed command of the company, and led them in a most determined manner throughout the attack. He acted as C.S.M. of A company for a considerable period, and has always been a most energetic and trustworthy N.C.O.'
