Taken on strength, 2nd Light Horse, Heliopolis, Egypt, 9 January 1916; proceeded to the front, 14 January 1916. Admitted to Assuit Hospital (Nile fever), 11 May 1916; discharged from Montazah Convalescent Depot, Alexandria, 22 May 1916, and returned to duty.

Transferred from 1st Light Horse Training Regiment, Tel-el-Kebir, to 2nd Light Horse, Romani, 11 June 1916. Admitted to 31st General Hospital, Tel-el-Kebir (appendicitis), 2 August 1916; transferred to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Cairo; discharged from hospital, 28 August 1916. Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board 'Kanowna', 23 September 1916; disembarked Sydney, 26 September 1916.

Declared fit for duty, and reported to camp, 6 December 1916. Re-embarked 23rd Reinforcement, 2nd Light Horse, from Melbourne on board 'Boorara', 10 May 1917; disembarked Suez, 20 June 1917. Suffered a broken leg, 20 July 1918, when his horse was forced over a bank: injury ruled sustained in the course of duty; no disciplinary action taken.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Ulimaroa', 13 March 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 19 April 1919; discharged, 16 June 1919.
