'For conspicuous gallantry and ability on 12th July, 1915, during an action on the Gallipoli Peninsula. As Forward Observing Officer, he advanced with the first line of infantry and established telephone communication with his battery from the captured hostile trenches. During the day he continued to advance underr heavy fire, sending back accurate reports, valuable not only to the guns, but also to the Corps Staff.'
