Distinguished Conduct Medal 'During the operations near Bellicourt, between 30 September and 2 October, 1918, he displayed marked courage and ability. In the early part of the attack he was one of a party of one officer and six men who on three separate occasions attacked enemy strong posts which were holding up the advance, accounting for the garrisons, amounting to over 40 men, and capturing eight machine guns. When the enemy counter attacked, he rallied the men of his platoon, and was responsible for such vigorous bombing and rifle fire that the attack was repulsed.'
