Military Cross 'For great gallantry and initiative during the operations near Le Verquier, north west of St. Quentin, on 18th September 1918. When his platoon met very strong opposition from a trench system, he established his Lewis gun to give covering fire, and with the remainder of his platoon bombed up the occupied portion of the trench, killing six and capturing sixty of the enemy. It was due to his quick dealing with the situation that his platoon captured the position with very few casualties.'
