War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane, 8 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 18 October 1916; marched into 7th Training Bn, Rollestone, 20 October 1916; admitted to Parkhouse Hospital, 6 December 1916 (mumps); marched into 7th Training Bn from hospital, 21 December 1916. Proceeded overseas to France 16 January 1917; taken on strength, 26th Bn, 24 January 1917. Wounded in action, 1 May 1917, and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance and transferred to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station (shrapnel wound, chest and neck); transferred by Ambulance Train to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 3 May 1917 (gunshot wound, chin); to England, 12 May 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, 14 May 1917; to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 20 September 1917; discharged on furlough, 29 September 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 13 October 1917.
