Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For marked gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations on 8 August, 1918, near Cherisy, east of Corbie. When troops on the left were held up by a machine gun nest, he and Sapper Dean dashed several hundred yards across the open under intense fire and caused the enemy to surrender with their two machine guns. This act of signal courage relieved the situation at a very critical time.'
