Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the outskirts of PERONNE and the village of FLAMICOURT on 2nd September 1918. As a stretcher bearer this N.C.O. displayed magnificent gallantry and devotion to duty. The area over which he worked consisted chiefly of streets and buildings which were subjected to an intense bombardment by the enemy and made the carrying out of his duties extremely dangerous and difficult. In spite of these trying and difficult circumstances this N.C.O. carried on with his duty for 9 hours without a break. His self sacrifice and gallantry resulted in the saving of many lives. This gallant N.C.O. set a high example to his team of stretcher bearers and did not cease work until he himself fell a victim to an enemy shell and was dangerously wounded. His magnificent example of self sacrifice and devotion to duty was worthy of the highest praise.'
