Disembarkaed Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 14 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 19 March 1916.

Appointed Temporary Corporal, 6 May 1916.

Wounded in action, 29 July 1916; admitted to 1st Anzac Rest Station, 7 August 1916 (shell shock), and discharged to duty same day; rejoined Bn, in the field, 11 August 1916.

Received substantive rank of Corporal, 28 July 1916.

Promoted Sergeant, 24 August 1916.

Wounded in action, 14 November 1916 (gun shot wound, left shoulder); admitted to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 16 November 1916; transferred to England, 27 November 1916, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 28 November 1916; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 20 February 1917; discharged on furlough, 5 March 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 20 March 1917.

Commenced return to Australia from Plymouth on board HT 'Ayrshire', 23 May 1917; arrived Sydney, 19 July 1917, for onward travel to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit), Sydney, 14 August 1917.
