Joined 5th Bn, Anzac, Gallipoli, 5 May 1915.

Admitted to Isolation Hospital, Cairo, 6 June 1915 (venereal disease); discharged to duty. 15 June 1915; rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 13 July 1915.

To hospital, Lemnos, 6 September 1915; disembarked Malta, 6 September 1915 (dysentery); rejoined unit, Lemnos, 13 September 1915.

Admitted to No 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Mudros West, 15 September 1915 (vomiting); transferred to duty, and rejoined Bn, 17 October 1915.

Tried by Field General Court Martial, Anzac, 13 November 1915, on charge of When on Active Service absenting himself without leave from 2140 on 7 November 1915 till 'retreat' on 9 November 1915: awarded 56 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Transferred to 57th Bn, 17 February 1916.

Transferred to 60th Bn, and taken on strength, Tel el Kebir, 15 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916.

Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.

Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.

Statement, 3616 Corporal S. RICHARDSON, 60th Bn, 19 April 1917: 'Pte George Carlin was with my section on 19.7.16 at Fleur Baix (sic) while the section was waiting to commence a raid, and that while so waiting an enemy shell came over and landed in No. 1 section killing two or three fellows. Carlin at this time was standing close to this section and was undoubtedly killed by the shell ... I made [a] search for him after the explosion but could find no trace of him, nor was he traced up to the time of my evacuation about 24.7.16.'
