Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed the utmost coolness and courage as a bearer under heavy fire. He made repeated journeys in front, bringing in wounded. On his last journey he was wounded while getting a man back. In spite of this he succeeded in crawling in, dragging the wounded man with him.'
