Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On his commander becoming a casualty, he took charge of the platoon, handling it with skill and initiative. He rushed a machine gun, which wasa checking the advance, killing two and capturing the remainder of the crew, as well as thirty more from a dug out just behind. He set a fine example to the men of the platoon.'
