War service: embarked from Australia, 28 June 1915; reported to unit, 1st Light Horse Regiment, Gallipoli Peninsula, 25 October 1915. Admitted to hospital (condition unspecified), 26 November 1915; rejoined unit, 29 November 1915. Evacuated from Gallipoli; disembarked Alexandria, 27 December 1915.

Proceeded to join Western Frontier Force, Egypt,14 January 1916. Wounded in action, 9 January 1917, admitted to 24th Stationary Hospital 12 January 1917 (gun shot wound, finger). Transferred to 15th General Hospital, Alexandria, 30 January 1917; discharged to duty, 2 February 1917. Taken on strength, 1st Light Horse Training Regiment, Moascar, 2 February 1917; transferred to 1st Light Horse Regiment, 19 February, and taken on strength, 20 February 1917.

Promoted to Corporal, 24 February 1917; promoted to Lance Sergeant 6 November 1917.

Sick, to hospital, 23 November 1917; admitted to 66th Casualty Clearing Station (tonsilitis) 24 November 1917; transferred to hospital, Choubra, and admitted (diphtheria) 4 December 1917; transferred to Convalescent Depot, 7 January 1918; discharged to Moascar 14 January 1918, and rejoined regiment. Taken on strength, 1st Light Horse Regiment, 16 January 1918; sent to School of Instruction, Zeitoun, 2 March 1918; returned from School of Instruction, 5 April 1918. Promoted to Sergeant, 16 June 1918.

To Cairo with 1st Light Horse Regiment, 2 August 1918; rejoined unit from Cairo at Moascar 2 December 1918.

Embarked for return to Australia per HT 'Karmala', ex Suez, (compassionate leave), 15 January 1919.
