Military Medal 'During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October 1917, he was employed on the construction of a strong point on BECELAERE RIDGE. He carried out his work in a plucky and conscientious manner, in spite of the fact that his job was incessantly under heavy shell fire. He rendered valuable service to his section in marking out the work and in supervising generally. He was constantly moving from one part of the post to another, encouraging the men and thereby setting a very high example which helped considerably in its construction.'
