Military Medal

'At HANEBEKE WOOD on 20th September 1917 this N.C.O., when his Battalion's objective had been gained, volunteered to take charge of a party to go back to Battalion Headquarters to bring up supplies of S.A.A. and water. This he did despite the fact that the enemy had a very heavy barrage down through which he and his party had to pass backward and forward. he displayed great courage and coolness, holding the men together well, and himself setting a fine example of grit and determination.'
