Embarked Melbourne on HMAT 'Demosthenes', 29 December 1915.

Allotted to 14th Bn, Zeitoun, and taken on strength, Tel-el-Kebir, 4 March 1916. Transferred to 12th Field Artillery Brigade, Tel-el-Kebir, and taken on strength, 16 March 1916; posted to Brigade Headquarters, 16 March 1916.

Admitted to No 1 Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 8 April 1916; discharged to duty, 15 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on 'Ionian' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 15 June 1916; taken on strength of 4th Divisional Ammunition Column, 26 June 1916. Transferred to 11th Field Artillery Brigade and taken on strength, 25 July 1916; posted to 41st Battery, 25 July 1916.

Found guilty in the field, 12 August 1916, of being absent from 9.00 am parade: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Found guilty in the field, 8 November 1916, of being absent without leave, 9.00 am, 5 November, to 6.00 am, 6 November 1916: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeits total of 1 day's pay.
