'On the 29th September during operations in the vicinity of BELLICOURT this man kept up constant communication between his Section Headquarters and Company Headquarters, despite heavy machine gun and artillery fire. Owing to his splendid gallantry and initiative the Section Officer was always in touch with the Company Commander and thus used his four guns to the greatest advantage. When this man's services as a runner were no longer required, he volunteered to carry out wounded and worked unceasingly through heavy artillery fire, finally succeeding in carrying out the wounded. His courage and untiring energy ware worthy of highest praise.'
