Military Medal 'On 4th July, 1918, in the operation against VAIRE WOOD,east of CORBIE, Corporal CARROLL's conduct was conspicuously gallant. During the advance he controlled his own section and a party of Americans, whose leaders had become casualties, in a particularly able manner. After the final objective had been reached he noticed a small enemy post in front which appeared likely to give trouble. He promptly organised a party, raided the post and brought back prisoners and a trench mortar. Later, he assisted to patrol his Company front and made a daring reconnaissance penetrating far into the enemy territory and bringing back valuable information. He gave a fine example of courage and devotion to duty.'
