Military Medal 'Great bravery and determination as an ammunition carrier, during the advance at VILLERS BRETONNEUX on the night of the 24th/25th April 1918. Owing to heaving casualties among the carriers it was necessary to send back through a very heavy barrage for more ammunition. CARTER volunteered at once, and returned several times bringing up ammunition. Through his splendid work the supply of S.A.A. to his Sub-Section was always good and by his willingness and cheerful contempt for danger he greatly inspired al ranks.'
