Military Medal 'At HERMIES, FRANCE, on 9th April 1917, Private CARTER was one of three scouts covering the advance of their platoon. They were held up by wire and subjected to machine gun fire from a trench 30 yards distant. They immediately opened fire and by their coolness and skill put the machine gun out of action and enabled their platoon to advance without oppossition.'
