'At Villers-Bretonneux during the operations on the night of 24/25th April, 1918, this man set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty. He repeatedly volunteered for dangerous patrol work and his reliability and cheerfulness made him invaluable to his company commander. He volunteered to go forward to find out the position of a hostile machine-gun. He was successful and this information enabled our Lewis gun to beat down the hostile fire.'

'Near Vendelles on the morning of 13th September, 1918, during an attack on enemy positions without artillery support, this man showed exceptional bravery when his platoon had passed their objective by 1000 yards. The enemy endeavoured to cut the platoon off, inflicting casualties on some of the men. Anderson went back to assist a wounded man in and was himself captured by eight of the enemy. Shooting two of these he managed to escape and reach our own lines. On the night of 13/14th September, 1918, the enemy counter-attacked with considerable strength. The post next to the one that Anderson was in had difficulties owing to N.C.O.s becoming casualties. Seeing the something was wrong, Pte Anderson rushed over to the post, took charge and successfully repulsed the enemy attack on that position. Throughout the operation his determination and devotion to duty was worthy of the highest praise.'
