Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When he was in charge of a reconnoitring patrol he led them with great skill against an enemy patrol in charge of an officer whom he accounted for, securing important maps and identifications. His gallantry has been conspicuous in many actions, and he has been three times wounded in the last two years and a half.'
