Military Medal 'During the whole tour of duty in the front line near ZONNEBEKE Private CARTER showed very great coolness in tending the wounded under very heavy shell fire. On the night 1st October, 1917, after the Company had been relieved in the front line he returned with Private McKENZIE to bring out a wounded comrade despite a very heavy barrage from the enemy's artillery.'
