Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in keeping his gun in action under very heavy shell fire in the captured trenches near BULLECOURT on 3rd May 1917 and thereby helping to beat off a serious counter attack. Later in the day he voluntarily quitted what cover the trench afforded to bring in wounded in daylight.'
